I’ve been looking into the idea of fortifying my home for preparation of future events. Ideally, some basic fortifications coupled with a hiding would be ideal. As for basic fortifications, I’ve been looking into some ways to beef up my home in ways such as more heavy duty windows, more sturdy door frames, perimeter fencing, etc.
Additionally, I would ideally like to add some sort of hidden room to store items. Unfortunately, living in Florida, I don’t have a basement. If I had a basement, I would probably do my best to create a false wall / hidden room where I could store supplies and potentially hide-out should a catastrophic event occur that would lead to social unrest. Without a basement, it’s tough to find space to create such a space.
The reality is that no matter how well you fortify your home, if enough people want to get in, they’ll be able to which is why a combination of fortifications plus a hidden room might be a good idea. Other than that, you might have to consider the option of bugging out. For me, living in a suburb with hundreds of homes around me, it looks like I’m stuck owning firearms for basic protections and being prepared to get out of dodge should the circumstances call for it.
What do you think about fortifying your home? What have you done?

You might try 3M security film and installing a security storm doors.
The 3M security film is VERY hard to break through. Search it up on youtube and you’ll see how secure it can really make a window. While it won’t prevent a determined intruder, it will definitely slow them down and give you time to prepare/leave.
Lowes sells security storm doors that lock themselves in 3 different places along the door frame and are nearly bullet proof. They are a little pricey but also very difficult to overcome.
This guy, while a little extreme in his politics, gives some good ideas regarding home fortification: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztv3g9cAXao

I seen where you can create bullet proofing where you take 2 sheets of 1/4 in plywood and sandwich a sheet of metal between. I can not remember the thickness of the metal (I would like to say 1/8 of an inch) These three bolted together was to stop most bullets. you could put this around your perimeter walls up to 4ft. It could be painted to look decent. you could also put this in your car doors to semi bullet proof you auto
Hey buddy,
A drive way allert works well to let you know if some one is approaching on foot or by car. $20.00 from Harbor Freight. If you are serious though, you will have to concider 6-24-7. That is; 6 adults, 24 hours a day, 7days a week. That is the bare minimum for security according to John Moore who has a line sheet longer than the Amazon.
We live in the county, and that being the case, we are a soft target. If I get a hint that we could become victoms. I will move my family right out of this country without hesitation and say goodby to the stuff that I have collected over the years.
I have been selling a lot of tools and equipment that I can live without, raising capitol and investing in mobile assets just for this purpose. Remember Katrina and those that were high and dry. I just got news that oil rain is real and if I lived in the south, I would pack up and be gone in 48 hours! Not a coward, non emotional, just plain realistic. I don’t wish to see some Xe goone pointing his weapon at me or my family.
“M” in the James Bond movies, often said to James;”Allways have an escape plan and never let them see you bleed”. Very good advice indeed.
God bless and hurry! Things are going to get ugly.
Newsflash. If an “XE goone” as you put it, aims a rifle at you, don’t worry your pretty paranoid head. I promise you won’t see it coming.
Well the best way to defend is to have lots of bullets and traps inside your home, if things shut down people will shake the human shell and show their parasite colors. They will instinctively come to take your food and weapons at the most vulnerable time, at night and they will probably be very fast and overpowering. NO matter how fortified you home is fire will burn it down and smoke you out like birds in a wooping nest. But if they do not burn your house down trying to get the stuff you will be smart to again have lots of bullets and traps, be in the basement and set up human traps that will let them in but not let them out, get insiration and set up ideas from the new mouse traps on the market. Remember you will have to find out where they came from, how many more there are and the psychological make up of the parasitic world you may now be living in. Stock the plywood needed to cover your doors and windows from OUTSIDE.
Using the neon chalk spray marking paint, put big x’s over the doors n window coverings,
Locate, printout and display FEMA biohazard, med emergeny stickers ( the 11×17 orange, stick-to-everything decals ) with condemned or something on outside.
This will act as a combat multiplier when dealing with possible future intrusions.
