I enjoy your site. I will just say that I agree with the feelings that you have about our way of life. I too, don't believe in the ability to bug out. I'm realistic, I do have a bag packed for emergencies, tornados, fires, evacuation by authorities, the such. I read about it in almost every blog. I'm not wealthy, no silver spoon, or on a governemnt check. So that says it all, my family depends on me to work and strive to make every thing better. It would not be wise to quit a good paying position on a whim and to act like I was 27 again. I am a master gardener, an ole home-steader in my past life, and love to help educate people that desire it. I tell my children that my neighbors are my first line of defence, and if all else fails, I can eat them. Its a pun. I live in southern Indiana, the weather is 65 one day 25 the next. I have small garden in my back yard and in one neighbors back yard. I see several yards that would be great if I needed to expand the vegetable growing. Its not only growing a crop, but havesting and putting it bye. For the hard time, you know. To get you bye till next harvest. Its a lot of work. Back breaking, long hours, no appreciation. I have a few hens for fesh eggs, fattened 25 broilers for the freezer, make a little wine, make a batch of lye soap, & heat the house on secondary fuel, seasoned wood, make homemade sourkraut, smoke summer sausage. Yes, and in the middle of town. You read about it all the time, be discreet, pratice OPS, good camoflage, keep your mouth shut, don't wave a red flag.
Now, would I be willing to bug out, and just leave everything? Over my dead body. You cannot survive with out the nessecities to make the family comfortable. Dry shelter, warmth, & food on the table. Most people that talk and not the walk, cannot imagine the skills it takes to survive. It take tools, tools, & more tools. I have been purchasing tools for years, and I still need another tool. So, with that rant, I'll be keeping in touch.
