I recently read the Hunger Games novel which depicts a future North America ruled by an oppressive government police state – the story is set around an annual competition where 2 teenage children from each district must fight to the death for entertainment and punishment by the oppressive regime. It’s an entertaining book, but what fascinated me is how clear the police state oppression is detailed in the book. Millions of readers of this popular book all probably have the same reaction and are thankful we have freedom in America.
Unfortunately, there’s a huge disconnect. The thoughts and reactions of the masses only go so deep. They don’t connect a a rising police state with legislation like the Patriot Act and recently the NDAA which allows the president and the government to detain Americans without due process. Freedom isn’t lost over night but is let go of piece by piece in the name of stability, security and the “war on terror”.
Hopefully, with politicians like Ron Paul voicing concern, more individuals will wake up to these realities and fight to protect our individual liberties in America.
